“Blooming smiles” is a phrase with a long history. It was used as far back as the 7th and 8th centuries, when it appeared in the Man’yoshu (“Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves”), the oldest existing collection of Japanese poetry. The phrase can refer to both blooming flowers as well as smiles that bloom like flowers.

This year’s theme for the eighth edition of the Gardening Show is “Genki! For Japan—Connecting Blooming Smiles.” Blooming smiles refers to both flowers in bloom as well as smiles that bloom like flowers. We hope everyone who visits Marunouchi comes away smiling, feeling soothed and refreshed by the flowers. This year’s theme was selected from the wish to see these smiles spread throughout Japan.
In connection with the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition to open on October 13 at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, this year the Lautrec Garden, featuring yellow Toulouse-Lautrec roses, will be installed in front of the Marunouchi Building.
The installation is the work of Michiko Hotate, who has appeared on the NHK television program Shumi no engei (Hobby gardening). Ms. Hotate is chief artistic and environmental director of Ukai Co., Ltd., where she coordinates the spatial design and interior and exterior decor of commercial facilities. She is lauded as an artist who integrates art with the environment.
Also along Marunouchi Nakadori Ave., 15 gardening installations selected by a jury will be displayed. Final judging will take place on the first day of the Gardening Show and awards will be presented, including the Garden Jewelry Grand Prix (a Gold Prize cash award of one million yen).
This year as well, the Newcomer’s Prize will be presented to encourage the development of new talent. Hanging baskets of flowers will decorate streetlights for approximately one kilometer, infusing Marunouchi with a profusion of colorful flowers and greenery. Meanwhile, special events planned for the Marunouchi Nakadori Ave. Gardening Show 2011 include a flower auction, gardening workshops and Marunouchi Garden tours. These and other events are open to the public. Numerous cultural and environmental activities are being organized in the Marunouchi district to further revitalize the community.

Marunouchi Nakadori Ave. Gardening Show 2011 Organizing Committee
8회째를 맞이하는 올해의 테마는 ‘힘내자! FOR JAPAN –꽃미소를 당신에게-‘. ‘꽃미소’란 꽃이 피는 것, 또는 활짝 핀 꽃과 같은 미소를 말합니다. 마루노우치에 와 주신 여러분이 꽃을 보시고 위로를 얻고 힘을 내어 밝은 미소를 지을 수 있도록, 다시 그 미소가 일본 전국으로 이어지기를 희망하며 테마로 선정하였습니다.
올해에는 10월 13일(화)부터 미쓰비시1호관 미술관에서 전시되는 ‘툴루즈 = 로트레크’전과 관련하여 ‘툴루즈 로트레크’라는 이름의 노란색 장미를 사용한 ‘로트레크가든’이 마루빌딩 앞에 등장합니다.
제작에는 NHK 방송 ‘취미 원예’에서도 활약하고 계신 호타테 미치코 (保立美智子)씨가 힘써 주셨습니다. 호타테씨는 ㈜우카이환경미술의 치프디렉터이며, 상업시설 공간디자인과 실내외 장식 등을 통해 환경과 미술을 융합하는 예술가로서 현재 큰 활약을 하고 계십니다.
또한, 마루노우치나카도리를 따라 심사에서 선발된 15개의 가드닝 작품이 전시됩니다. 개최 첫날에는 최종심사가 행해지고 가든주얼리대상 (금상:상금 100만엔)을 비롯하여 각각의 상이 수여됩니다.
이뿐 아니라 올해에도 ‘마루노우치나카도리 가드닝쇼 신인상’을 마련하여 새로운 인재를 육성, 지원하고 있습니다. 그리고 약 1km에 걸쳐서 가로등에 바구니를 설치하여 마루노우치에 펼쳐지는 색색의 꽃과 녹음의 공간을 연출하였습니다.
이 외에도 마루노우치 나카도리 거리 가드닝 쇼 2011특별기획의 일환으로 꽃경매, 가드닝 체험을 할 수 있는 워크숍, 마루노우치 가든투어 등 다양한 참가 이벤트도 개최됩니다. 마루노우치 지역에서는 문화, 환경 등에 관한 다양한 활동을 전개하여 지역 활성화를 도모하고 있습니다.

마루노우치 나카도리 거리 가드닝 쇼 2011 실행위원회
今年第8届的花园节主题是“为日本增添活力 〜共享 花之微笑〜”。“花之微笑”既表示鲜花烂漫又隐喻笑靥如花。希望来此参观的人们会在欣赏花卉的同时放松心情，从疲劳中恢复，展露美丽的笑颜。并愿这种欢声笑语能够传遍全日本，这就是我们倾注于今年主题的意愿。
今年，在丸大厦前展示的主题花园是用名为“图卢兹・罗特列克”的黄玫瑰花装饰的“罗特列克花园”。它将与10月13日(星期二)在三菱一号馆美术馆举办的 “图卢兹・罗特列克”画展遥相呼应。花园设计者保立美智子女士多次出演于NHK电视节目“园艺爱好”，并在株式会社UKAI担任环境美术监督，主要从事商业设施的空间设计、室内外的装潢等工作。如今，作为一位“融合环境与艺术的艺术家”而享有盛名。
同时，沿着丸之内仲街将展示通过严格评审选定的15个园艺作品。在花园节举办首日还将进行最终评审，并为获奖者颁发“Garden Jewelry大奖”（金奖：奖金100万日元）等奖项。本年度也将另行颁发“丸之内仲街花园节新人奖”，继续鼓励并培育新人才。
此外，还将在长达约1公里的街灯上悬挂吊篮花卉，为丸之内色彩缤纷的空间锦上添花。而作为2011花园节的特色，花卉拍卖会、体验式园艺工房、丸之内园游会等活动，也将使大家可以充分体会到园艺的乐趣。并希望通过开展各种与文化、环境相关的活动，能进一步活跃丸之内地区的城市气氛。
